Day 1 – Feeling the Groove and Lake Life

Day one is complete! We had a really incredible day of skiing, eating and fun dryland activities. A couple black bears were spotted heading up the Blackcomb gondola which was a great start to the day.

The girls spent the early morning warming up on the Horstman T-BarĀ  getting the feeling back of sliding around on snow and reminding themselves all about this crazy sport we love so much. After a solid warm-up we split up into groups and slowed the pace down to work on some stance and balance drills. It was tricky off the start, but the girls really worked hard to show some good progress. After the snack break we set up some drill courses including a “picket-fence” for upper/lower body separation and getting the feet moving.

The long trip back down into the valley was a highlight for a few of the girls and we were greeted at the bottom with Whistler’s bustling weekly farmers market. Lunch was devoured heartily and followed by a run to Lost Lake, some yoga/core/balance work and a much needed swim in the lake. It was great to see all the girls getting out to the dock and having some good ol’ summer time fun.

Our chef Leslie gave a great pre-dinner talk on the importance of hydration and fueling our bodies for training and competition and followed it up with some killer enchiladas and rice-crispie squares for dessert. We are spoiled!

The girls are stoked and looking forward to another day on the slopes tomorrow!!!
